Happy St. Nicholas Day!!!

When my family lived in Switzerland in 1988, we picked up the fun tradition of celebrating St. Nicholas Day. This is a day when you get your shoes filled by St. Nicholas and is celebrated in many places in Europe. I get a kick out of this holiday, especially when I have people to celebrate it with! James took his loot with him to work, but Mason and I spent the morning with my sisters, niece, and brother-in-law. What fun! We even hit the town parade. Even though it did not rival the Snowflake, AZ Pioneer parades that I was raised on, Mason still thought it was pretty neat. He was captivated the entire time. Little kids sure make everything more fun.

Each year a little king figurine is baked into some sort of sweet bread. Whoever finds it is King or Queen for the day. Hail, Queen Valerie! As a result, she was forced to wear the crown to the parade as well. Leadership isn't easy.

What a fun tradition!! I'm so glad you have family your family to spend time with!! Was it a St. Nicolas Day parade, or just a Christmas parade?

st. nicolas day sounds like one of the foolish traditions of the fathers talked about in the Book of Mormon
