This morning we took poppy to work and then bundled up Mason for the excursion. Since I signed up so last minute I was afraid that my registration would not have been posted at the registration desk and thought it would be a good idea to bring my e-mail confirmation....on our laptop (our printer is busted). This was not necessary as I was on the list (I'm a dork) and so without a hitch, we smoothly got onto the starting line. Me, my 26+ pound baby, a stroller, diaper bag, and a laptop. I think we struck fear in other runners hearts. We obviously looked like some major competition.
Mason screamed for 2 out of the 6 miles (I can't blame him. It was 25 degrees outside when we started) and dumped junk out of the stroller (blanket, shoes, trash) making me have to stop every now and then to retrieve his belongings. Also, shouldn't there be rules about slow and fast lanes? I swear! People just stopped running out of nowhere and it took all of my stroller savvy not to plow into them. As you can imagine, we didn't win any medal. But overall, it was a fun experience and I am glad we did it. I look forward to running in this sort of thing again with Mason cheering me on from the sidelines instead of screaming for me to stop from our hefty stroller.
The race made me miss my sister, Kathleen, who is an amazingly talented runner. Even though she is way faster, she always makes me feel like a million bucks when we go running together. It also made me miss one of my favorite roommates, Leah. We volunteered to guide traffic for this race 5 years ago. That was one of the funniest and most enjoyable memories of my BYU carrier.

Hey girly...I was there too! Check out my blog for picks. It was fun but yes it was cold!!
That's awesome. I am so not a runner - so a 10k for me would be like a marathon for a regular person. Way to go!!
wow, Malinda! I'm so proud of you! I totally forgot about it, or I would have been there on the sidelines cheering you on. Actually, we should have been babysitting Mason for you!
Good luck training for your next marathon! I can't believe I'm related to you and Kathleen. Running seems like torture to me!
That's awesome! I really wanted to do the Rex Lee run when they had cool shirts. When is your half marathon? I'm doing one in Sacramento May 2nd! Good job sticking it out with Mason screaming, I know exactly how that is...really really fun...
So funny--I was driving home from the temple that morning and I THOUGHT I saw you with your jogging stroller racing along! I couldn't tell for sure though, and I had to keep my eye on the road to avoid plowing into the millions of runners! It was CRAZY! I'm so impressed with you, though. Way to go! I am just now trying to get back into running after having Kate, and let me tell you...I am not in good shape (unless you count solid ROUND). I ran a mile today without stopping, and it was nearly the death of me. How sad is that?
