McCabe eating his first bite of solids.
Last night McCabe ate his first bowl of rice cereal! Boy oh boy, he loved it! Our little men have all been fans of food, but we have never had one scarf up his first bowl of gruel with so much gusto and delight! Hot dog! Everyone was very impressed.
Char and Mason were happy to coach him through it.
In truth, I generally HATE this phase of eating. I much prefer the ease of the bottle to having to take the time to make baby food and spoon feed it to my little one's. But this time I am actually excited. For Charlie and Mason we waited till they were exactly six months before feeding them but thanks to McCabe's impressive acid reflux problem, his doctor suggested starting earlier in hopes that the solids would help him keep his food down. After several types of medication didn't do the trick, we are REALLY hoping that this does!
McCabe was very pleased with himself and feels like this takes him one step closer to being big like his brothers.
After McCabe porked, James and Mason used their brute strength and sawed wood slates for the new (to us!) bed that we just bought that evening. Mason was thrilled! He is really in a phase where he wants to be bigger and stronger than everyone and everything and getting to help Poppy really made him feel special.
I guess James calls Mason Buddy or Bud pretty often because all of a sudden, Mason calls his brothers Buddy and occasionally I hear him refer to his own Pops in that way. "Poppy, can I help you, Buddy?" It is so sweet. He wants to be just like his Poppy and I can't blame him.
I love his little tongue sticking out as he works
Char decided that he was not going to be outdone by his older brother, so he showed off his big-boy skills. Very impressive! After he proved his point, he was happy to return to hunting for worms and sitting in his favorite mysterious whole in the ground (an uncovered drainage pipe. He nearly fits in it and he thinks it is pretty cool).
McCabe looked on and wondered if he would ever be as big and burly as his brothers. We have no doubt that he will be just as big and gooney before we know it! For now though, I'm glad I have at least one little friend to spoon-feed.

Wow, he ate that right up! I still can't get Grace to eat baby food and she's 7 months old. Oh well, every kid is different.
i love mason's concentration faces while working with his dad. so funny and cute!
I totally understand about the solids. It's a painful gap between making a bottle and the point where they can finally maneuver messy food into their mouths on their own.
Sounds like you guys are doing well: what a cute bunch of kids! We miss you!!
