July 4th, 2014

We just got the good news that James won't have to go away this Summer for a three-week army training like we had planned! We are over the moon and feel amazingly blessed to get Poppy all to ourselves! A happy reprieve amidst a busy year! He was scheduled to be gone for the 4th of July holiday just like he was last year. To celebrate our good fortune, here are some pictures of when we were not so lucky in his company but felt blessed all the same.

Last year, the boys were over the moon for our great American holiday to come! For weeks, tents sprung up all over town, packed full with all sorts of fireworks and firecrackers, and our boys were anxious to get their little hands on some of them! Finally, just before the big day came, the boys and I ventured into a tent that boasted discount prices and bought all sorts of goodies! Hot dog!!!!

When the day finally dawned, we started it out with some snakes in the backyard:
They were a bit of a letdown because the boxes claimed all sorts of cool colors, but besides that, it was a hit. Come on, we were burning things for fun! Can there really be that much of a letdown when matches are involved?!!!

After our fire-fun, the boys and I headed for Tuttle Creek for a little romp amidst the trees;
This is one of our favorite spots that we have affectionately named, Crotch Hollow.

Even our friend Clyde celebrated with us!
He kept us company for a week while our friends were out of town.

Charlie found a frog and Coobie hammed it up!

Our cute Charlie.

In the evening, we headed off to our neighboring city, Wamego, where we braved the crowds with our good friends, the Wenzles. This town celebrates with a fun little parade and a big firework show to boot!
Waiting for the parade to start

Enjoying our loot!

The cute Wenzles, on our way back to our cars after all the candy had been thrown

I love these people!

We opted to skip out on Wamego's firework show to spend the evening with our incredibly kind neighbors, who let us light fireworks with them! We were in hog heaven and I felt so loved and included!
We really do have nice neighbors.

Look how happy these boys were?

Apparently, it got a little loud at times.

We ended the day around midnight, tired and happy. We missed James but all the same, we had a great day celebrating our great nation!
