Our boys in 2019!

My last post on here was in 2015 so I guess I have been playing hard to get for long enough. A lot as happened in that time frame: James graduated from vet school, we moved to Colorado for a year, and now we live in Germany! Life certainly is exciting because you never know what lays ahead of you. We are on the brink of deciding what our next adventure is and I can't wait to get our answers. At any rate, it is time for a post, and what better way to start back up again, than with an update on our three boys?! Just like old times...except they are a lot bigger. (Sniff.)

Mason at 12:

-Mason likes bugs and creatures and exploring as much as he did when I last blogged about him nearly five years ago. We keep thinking that he will grow out of it but he is as interested as ever! In fact, he was lucky enough to get to meet an entomologist in the army stationed nearby who let him come see her lab and ask questions and he was tickled pink! Even better, he left with pet hissing cockroaches! Now who wants to come visit us?!

-He loves to bike, just like he did back in the day, but now he is old enough to grab a cell phone and hit the hills on his own or with a brother or a friend. He can go for miles and miles and comes back dirty and happy.

-Is learning Portuguese so that he can move to Brazil someday and explore.

-Mason became a deacon in our church this last January, which means that he was able to get the Priesthood (the power and authority of God on the earth for us today). Since then, he has been passing the sacrament every Sunday and taking his responsibilities seriously.

-He loves to read but mostly non-fiction books about...you guessed it...animals and bugs!

-Is our number one babysitter.

-Favorite friend to play with is Maverick. They hit it off when we first moved here to Germany over two years ago and have been going strong ever since!

-Now has bigger feet then me and is inching pretty close to my great height.

-Has as yellow-blond hair as ever.

-Likes to travel but doesn't like long drives.

-Now needs glasses or contacts but doesn't care enough to wear either almost all of the time. Says that he doesn't think that he really needs them but he can be found squinting when trying to see something far away so we don't quite believe him. The other night we were on a hedgehog hunt to see our favorite German animal, and we saw a deer standing about ten feet away in the brush. Mason was certain that it was a cat until it bounded away and he has been teased about it ever since.

-Favorite color is green.

-Is still patient and kind and a friend to all.

Charlie at 10:

-Has even more freckles on his handsome face and I love it!

-Is still as sweet as the day is long! Last week I was sick with a cold, and found a balloon shaped like a flower on my pillow with a 'get well soon' note from our creative and talented balloon artist, Char.

-Still loves to create things and is incredibly creative. He still loves to make things with tape but now he has moved onto colored duck tape. (Much more durable and fancy to boot!) Last year I mentioned that I needed a new holder for my razor in the shower, and later that night I found one made out of a coke can and duck tape, hanging by some yarn from the shower handle. He didn't say anything about it, just quietly had made his mom's razor caddy dreams come true without any fan fair. I still use it today and smile every time I see it. MacGyver would be proud!

-He loves to read (if it is a good book) and just recently zipped through the Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer. Also loves to be read to by his mother as much as ever! (We are currently reading Island of the Blue Dolphins.)

-Is currently playing soccer and made two goals this last Saturday. That thrilled me for his sake, but what really made me proud, was when a friend of ours told us that he works with Charlie's coach and happened to be talking to her last week about how her coaching was going. As she talked about the highs and lows, she mentioned that there was this one really sweet and cute boy on her team that was just how she hoped her future boys would be like, named Charlie. Our friend told her that he actually knows Char and was nice enough to pass the compliment along.

-Still loves gymnastics, although he isn't currently taking lessons. He took classes until this last summer when he retired after taking second place overall in a gymnastic competition.

-Still is our early riser and still likes nothing more than one-on-one time. It fills his love bucket right up!

-Hates to go running unless he is chasing a ball.

-Is my best travel buddy.

-His favorite food is fruit and can be found munching on apples all day long.

-Is learning French.

-Loves music more then his brothers and asks to have it play throughout the day.

-Is now old enough to take McCabe with him to our local market down the street for a treat or last minute food item that I need for dinner. This is SO handy for a lazy mother like myself!

-Still likes wearing shorts at all times, even Sundays at church.

-Favorite color is blue.

McCabe at almost 9:

-This boy is OBSESSED with getting a dog after our next move. All day long every day (for the last year+) he chats about, reads about, and dreams about dogs! He currently cannot decide which breed he intends on getting once we are stateside, but his top picks for now are Rough Collie, Papillons, Gordon Setters and Bernese Mountain Dogs.

-LOVES his stuffed animals as much as ever before!

-Now wears glasses and picked out blue frames that he treats with care.

-Is a fabulous speller and is a very fast reader, but only if he is interested in what he is reading.

-Loves to draw, and as his doting mother, I think he is rather good! Most of the time you can spot him sketching dogs.

-Loves to sleep and is really REALLY hard to get up in the morning.

-Loves to joke, as always.

-Gives devastating compliments. As in, when he gives you compliments, he usually accidentally gives your ego a hard blow. But he means so well that you can't help but feel loved all the same.

-Still goes by Coobie almost all of the time.

-Favorite animals are orangutans, polar bears, and dogs.

-Wants to learn Mandarin so that he can go to Borneo and work with orangutans in the wild. Unfortunately for him, he is learning German and is doing too well at it for us to let him jump ship.

-Like his brothers, he is very good at soccer. We tried to get him onto Charlie's soccer team this season (to simplify our lives more than for any other reason) but they wouldn't allow it so he is one of the oldest in his age group and on his team. Because of this, he lazily wins game after game for his team. This last Saturday their winning score was 10-0 and McCabe made all 10 goals. Yikes.

We love our boys as much as ever before even though they decided to grow so much!
Let this be proof that we are alive and kicking. (I am just lazy and am better at posting on Instagram then on this blog.) Who knows, maybe this will start a habit again?
