Pumkins and Snails

Two nights ago we decided to bring Halloween to life by carving pumpkins with our little boys. We were a bunch of pumpkin carving scrooges last year, so this was the first time Mason got to take part in the activity. Boy oh boy, was he excited!!!!! So excited that his ears apparently stopped functioning.....the festivities had to be put on hold at least once while he had to do a time out for grabbing sharp knives against our orders....Days with skipped naps are hard for a two year old. The boys and I picked pumpkins from this years Sugar sweet Farms harvest while James finally carved the mongo one we grew last year.....We are weird. All in all, it was a fun night!

James showing Mason the ropes.

Little Charlie, ready to carve a masterpiece!
It took FOREVER to light all of the pumpkins because Mason would ooh and aw and then excitedly blow the candles out. Just as James would light the last pumpkin, Mason would happily put out the first. YIKES!!!!

Our spooky family picture. Thank you self timer and some unknown parked car.

The Great Pumpkin made the night extra special by bringing Mason a pet snail (found on one of the carved pumpkins). Mason loved (past tense since he is already no longer with us. Sniff sniff) his pretty little pet and called him, "Snee". James got him a little mason jar and we put a piece of lettuce in it to "recreate his natural habitat" (Boy do I miss Mitch Hedburg).

Mason was so fond of Snee that he insisted that he joined him for a sleepover in his crib. We normally would not allow a snail to snooze with our little one, but as it was practically a holiday and Mason was so bent on it, we gave him the green light. We peeked in on him about 30 minutes after we put him down and Mason was just sitting in his dark room staring at his mason jar snail cadge. Such a funny little chap.
Happy Halloween!!!!!!!

Shoot! We forgot to carve pumpkins this year. Luckily Logan spent the day with a friend who's Mom is more on the ball than me. He was the only one who got to enjoy this little Halloween adventure. :) Your pumpkins look great!
