Crowy

Let's be honest, there are a hundred and one reasons why I love Jamesy, but one of them is the element of adventure and fun that he brings into our lives. For example, the other day (a month or so ago, really) our family was driving away from our home when James spotted a crow with a hurt wing. I thought James was joking when he asked me if we should run home and get a net to catch it, but next thing I knew, James was in hot pursuit of the poor little lame (and surprisingly fast) creature as he zigged and zagged around someone's yard. Thankfully, I also had my camera to document how cool he looked while doing it. :)
The chase paid off and next thing we knew, we were nursing our little crow friend back to health.
James got these heavy duty nets for the boys last Summer, but I think he has used them just as much.

We came up with so many names for our feathered friend, but we mostly just called him Crowy. For the next couple of weeks we kept our crow in a large dog kennel and fed him all sorts of tasty treats to help him feel better. One evening, Crowy was so stinky, that James made him a little pen in the backyard and let him enjoy the outdoors for a while. Sadly, that little ingrate left without even saying goodbye! We like to think that his wing had miraculously healed and that he is flying around with his bird friends instead of having become some creature's dinner. Who knows, maybe some other oddball-do-gooder family scooped him up and brought him to their house for a little visit and TLC? One can dream, right?

The boys thought we had the coolest pets around. Rats AND a crow?!!! Could life get any better? I figured we just needed to get a pet spider and we would be set for Halloween all year round!

I learned from this adventure that James has wanted a pet crow for a long time. Even though Crowy stayed for a short time, James got a kick out of his bird. Luckily, I think he also got the whole crow thing out of his system. He wasn't the sweetest smelling creature around.

I have always wanted a crow for a pet! You Siegs are the best! When you finish with school and settle down I vote we settle down nearby. I'll help you take care of the animals and the kids can run around!
