Charlie turned FOUR back on September 22nd! I meant to post about this sooner but seeing as he wasn't due until the later end of October, I really am not too far behind, right? Charlie had been dreaming and scheming about his big 4th birthday since he turned 3. As the weeks drew closer, his plans and rules for his big day became more and more definite. Rules like, "No one can be nude on my birthday or else they can't get candy!" were being put into place so that there would be no surprises when the party started. (Fortunately, most of us didn't have any problem with the nude rule...Except for Coobie, who seems to really be going through a naked phase. Every time he goes to the bathroom he strips down to nothing and then it is next to impossible to get him to put pants on again! Fortunately Charlie, the "clothes whisperer" was able to get him to come to reason when Coobie broke this rule on Charlie's birthday by saying, "Cabey! Get fothes on! I can fee your fenis!")
His day started by waking up at the crack of dawn and shuffling into the living room to see that the house was decorated in true birthday fashion!

Blackie was equally impressed by the balloons. The day doesn't start for this boy without sleepily getting his beloved pet out for an early morning snuggle session.
After a quick breakfast of pig meat (what he calls sausage) and eggs, we headed off to church. Poor Char. Church on his birthday?! This was NOT part of his birthday plan and he was quick to let us know! How did fate deliver such a tricky blow! Thankfully, Char's teachers and friends were so thoughtful and kind to him that he came home beaming. So church on his birthday wasn't so bad after all.
One of his teachers made him this birthday crown that made him feel like a million bucks.
Our Char
His friends the Wenzels knew how much he liked Mason's treasure chest so they got him one of his own full of gold chocolate coins and treasures! What a hit! All of his most prized possessions spend at least some time in his little treasure chest...including my cell phone that went missing until I heard a faint ringing sound coming from it hours later.
After a relaxing afternoon, we finally brought out the pinata! Char wanted a rhino baby. I accidentally bought metallic paint so it turned out to be a silver rhino, but char knows that it is only what is inside that counts. Charlie had his heart set on our neighbors, Megan and Patrick, coming over for his pinata and presents and luckily they were kind enough to oblige! (Although, you never would know it from the pictures I didn't get any of them!)
The boys were all pretty grumpy at this point so I am not sure if those facial expressions were determination or real anger?
Mason approved of Char's candy choices this year
After the pinata, we headed inside where Char tore into his pile of presents!
They were all a hit!
After having a fun visit with our neighbors (and after Huckle ate the whole birthday cake that was cooling on the counter), we headed off to Charlie's birthday park to play while cake number two cooled in a safer spot.
This boy loves playing at City Park! Especially with his trusty pup and Poppy!

It might now look all that wowy but this cake was tasty! Plus, I didn't have to make it!
So even with church and a stolen cake, Char's birthday turned out to be a success after all! He loved it so much that he already started making plans for his next day of absolute power! But I suppose that the way time is flying by these days, 11 months might not be to soon to start planning...especially if he insists on Cabey being clothed! I better glory in the wonders of my 4-year-old while I can!
