Our boys at this stage

A favorite park

Its that time a of year again when I want to take a snapshot of the boys little personalities before they grow and change in a blink. The boys are such sweethearts and so much fun at this stage. I must say, now that I have all three boys out of diapers (I guess it has been almost a year) and they all sleep at night, motherhood is really getting easier! Of course, I know every age has its own struggles, but I'll enjoy this reprieve while I can! One thing I love most about this stage right now is how much our little men play with each other. Everything turns into an inside joke with them (especially this right now) and it is fun to think that they are actually old enough to remember these things once they grow up. I hate that they are getting old so quickly but it sure is fun to see who they are becoming and it makes me love them all the more!

Now this is a duel!

Mason kept the sword-fight up a long time after Poppy quit.
Mason
-Good to the bone. To the point where I worry a smidge.
-Loves to whittle with his knives and is obsessed with obtaining more knives.
-Spends a great amount of time perusing and adding to his treasures in his treasure box.
-Is especially into marbles and money right now. In fact, he just sewed his very own marble bag on my sewing machine with almost no help from me.
-Constantly has a little bit of crack going on in the back no matter what size of paints or underwear he wears.
-Is as helpful as the day is long.
-Loves to be read to but still hates to read. (It is killing me!)
-Loves math and is especially into counting money.
-Is one of the most optimistic people I know. The other day he had some bad stomach bug and spent about 12 hours puking. After one episode, after collecting himself and taking a look at his throw-up (that was basically just Gatorade), he said, "That is the prettiest puke I ever made!"
-Will craft all day if I let him.
-Firmly believes that he is an adult but still has to sleep with his "B" at night.
-Wants to explore, explore, EXPLORE!
-Can never have too much outdoor time.
-Thinks tv is a waste of time.
-Still thinks his Pops is tops!
-Takes very good care of me and won't let me carry anything. Today at lunch, he walked into the kitchen while I was awkwardly getting food out of the fridge to make quesadillas and he said, "Nope! Mom, I will not let you make lunch. You sit down and I'll make them!" We settled on him being my number-one helper while my crutches and I directed.
-Is a loyal brother and stands up to anyone if he thinks his brothers are being mistreated. Even new friends.
-Uses his middle finger to point. I guess he has been using it for a while now but James and I have been noticing it a lot more lately so we finally had to tell him that your middle finger means a swear word. He thought that was weird but also was a little let down because he said, "But that is my special pointing finger!"
-Is a full-blown hoarder. Takes the old adage, "One man's trash is another man's treasure" to a whole new level!
-Is a particularly spiritual little gent.
-Often saying funny things like,"You never know about lips. They might be smooching or they might be doing something else." Also, "When I talk like a parent I lower my voice really low so that Coobie knows that he did something wrong and feels bad."
James lets them drive on his lap when we are in the abandoned campgrounds of Tuttle Creek and the boys think it is the greatest!

Char
-Says, "Whateva!" every now and then, in preparation for his teen years.
-Loves loves LOVES to tape things. Really anything, but right now he is especially into wrapping sticks with tape a billion times over and calling them his swords. That is what happens when you are in couch-mode and your kids have free reign of the craft-room.
-Still hates church even though he comes home pleased as punch every time. "I HATE church-day!"
-Insists on wearing the most forlorn and comfortable old shorts all the time even though it has been a very cold Winter.
-Has been a lot more even keeled lately.
-Is incredibly sweet about his momma and often says, "I am sorry that you had to brake your leg!" Also, he includes, "Please bless that Mom will have strong bones like me" in almost every prayer.
-Is starting to read and really proud of himself....even though he squoans a fair amount when it is time to learn.
-Loves mustard more than almost any food and will often just squeeze a bunch onto a piece of bread, fold it over, and call it a mustard sandwich.
-Would watch tv all day long if I would let him.
-Loves to tell jokes. Whenever he does, he slightly alters his voice and puckers his little lips together into a little "o" while he talks. It is super cute!
-Still adores his pet rat.

-Loves to help me clean. Especially toilets. However, today while I forced my kids into slave labor, he repeatedly came up to me and said with a smile, "We love you Miss Hannigan!" I guess even a kid who likes to clean has his limits.
-Is the brother that everyone wants to play with. The perk of being the middle kid.
-Is very tender.

McCabe:
-Don't make the mistake of calling him a baby or little whatever you do! If you make that slip, he'll be quick to inform you that, "I'm a big boy!" or "I am humongous!" Of course, this doesn't apply if you call him a baby lion or baby zebra instead.
-Just barely got weened off of his zebra pants. I found them in the laundry and hid them in my closet. It has now been two weeks without them! Instead, he has been wearing his swimming trunks almost exclusively.
-Loves to dance to the song in Madagascar, I like to move it move it.
-Still reminds us of the unsinkable Molly Brown.
-Super sneaky and is often found sneaking a treat under a table or a chair in stealth mode. Also won't hesitate to spin a yarn.  James found him playing in the sink with soap the other night (after he got in trouble for getting soap everywhere earlier) and asked him what he was doing and Coobie said, "Not playing with soap!"
-Actually sleeps in his bed all night long! I know he is three, but this is a new thing since we moved to this new place.
-Loves playing with his brothers.
-Loves our neighbors, the Wenzels and is especially fond of "Wacey" (Lacey). In fact, he just told me, "I wish Wacey was my mudda." It was totally out of the blue and I hadn't even been grumpy!
-Loves the color red.
-Will argue any point. And I really do mean ANY. I really think he does it for sport.
-Sings "It's a hard knock life for us" from the musical Annie while he putters around the house making messes.
-Throws "just" into nearly everything he says. For example: "I just want a cheese chashashia (cheese quesadilla).
-Really into his full name. "My name is McCabe Poetah Fig!"
-Loves to ask me if i can do certain things, and when I say that I can't, he says excitedly, "Cause, you have a broken leg!" I usually don't mind but the other day he said, "You is not smart 'cause you have a broken leg!" and that sorta crossed a line.
-Still almost always has some sort of vehicle clutched in his little hands at all times.
-Now that I sit in the middle section of the van with him (since it is easier on my leg), he doesn't miss a trip without asking me if I'll hold his hand. Getting to drive around town with his chubby little hand in mine is probably the best thing about breaking my knee.
-Asks me what my "other name is" all day long. When I tell him, he happily says, "Miwinda!"
-Frequently asks me to tell him stories about the "...thing that swims in da water? The...creature of da bwack MAGOON!" (Creature of the black Lagoon).
-Is the family clown.
-Obsessed with ghosts or anything spooky. Has me read, The Spooky Old Tree whenever he gets the chance.
-Knows how to use his lushes lashes.

I guess we better get our boys guns so they can fulfill this whole list. Go Kansas!

When I was growing up my favorite sandwich was ketchup and mustard. It was all I wanted to take to lunch and my mom was horrified because she was afraid people would think we couldn't afford meat! I didn't care, loved it...so goooo Charlie with your mustard sandwiches! YUM! We miss you guys! -Megan
