After James was away for the majority of the Summer, he decided to surprise me with a short cruise off of the coast of California during our trip home to visit family. Boy was I excited! I had always wanted to go on a cruise, and living the life of luxury sounded right up my alley! So we packed our bags, left our kids with family and headed out to sea! Hot dog!
Sadly, seeing as we were new to the cruise scene, we had no idea that Carnival cruises (especially the short weekend trips) are just big casino/party boats and, unless you are drunk as a skunk, they are not even remotely enjoyable! Even moments after boarding, we knew we had made a big mistake! Everything was loud and tacky and base....and there was no way out.
To add insult to injury, we both were sea sick for the majority of the trip (am I coming across as too whiny)?
So, we drowned our sorrows in equally bad food:
There was absolutely nothing to do but eat on that cruise but the quality of food was that which you would find at a really low budget buffet.
And took a bunch of selfies:
And ate some more:
'Cause if we can't have quality, at least we need quantity, right?
At least we knew that the following day we would be docking in Mexico and we soothed our souls with ideas of snorkeling in crystal blue waters and enjoying nice sandy beaches. Yes, Ensenada was going to make the whole trip worth it! Wrongo! Ensenada is basically Tijuana with a beach. A really dirty brown beach. And it was raining. Shoot. However, since ANYTHING was better than staying on board, we headed off to brave the rain anyway.
James and our ship.
James and me and our ship. It was super exciting. I am quite certain that selfies make me look like Jay Leno
Me and James and a very yellow wall. I promise I was wearing two earrings.
Me and a whale bone sculpture
We wrapped up our trip on land with the fish market. One of us was a little more excited about it than the other.
Ahhh....back at sea.
Just in time for another shot of the two of us before we headed back in for some more tasteless food. :)
The last day was a "Fun Day at Sea" which entailed doing circles in choppy water while the coastline taunted us in the distance.
There were several professional photographers on board who were taking pictures of all of the guests throughout the trip. Shockingly, the only pictures they took of us were while we were eating so we weren't bent on purchasing the shots. However, we couldn't resist taking a couple glamour shots of our own when they weren't using their super classy backdrops. If our cruise had looked like this, maybe I wouldn't have complained so much.
The cruise left us feeling decidedly against ever going on another cruise ever again. Perhaps there are better cruise lines but you couldn't pay us to ever find out! But if I had to be trapped on a party-boat out at sea, you better believe that there would be no one that I would rather be stuck out there with than my honeybun!
And one more selfie for the road. Good times.

Wow you had a crazy summer! I don't think I realized that James was in the military. You are such a trooper! And while your cruise description (which was totally hilarious!) doesn't make me want to go on one any time soon, we are definitely stopping by that zoo in Omaha when we drive back to Utah. That looked awesome!
