At the beginning of this month, our good friend Patrick brought us a little baby bunny to pamper. His cat, Thomas, had brought him in from his backyard. The poor little creature was so small and young that his eyes and ears were still sealed shut and he was completely pathetic! We were instantly won over by the little fella and were thrilled for the chance to save him! After buying a little bottle and some kitten milk replacement, Charlie came up with the perfect little name for him; George Washington. (Charlie comes up with our most creative names, unlike his brothers, who were probably bent on something safe like, Bunny or Hopper).
Sadly, despite our best efforts to revive and protect the young thing was for naught and he died the next morning. It was very sad. However, it reminded us of a more successful attempt of bunny raising that we had last Summer with our little bunny friend, Vanilla.

Meeting George Washington, while we decided how to care for him
Last June we found little Vanilla all alone and dehydrated under our kayaks in our backyard last summer. It seemed pretty hopeless at first, but after James gave him several subcutaneous injections of saline (and the rest of us gave lots of prayers), Vanilla revived! After a several day stay, we were able to let him go free.

So cute and tiny!
Not feeling too hot
Our first attempt of rousing him with sugar water.
Charlie loves every creature
Holding our friend one last time. Evidently, Charlie had just got up from a nice long sleep.
I can't get over how little McCabe is!
Vanilla may have been eager to leave us but not before one last hug!
Now whenever we see a bunny hop around our yard, we give it a friendly hello, in case it is our favorite wild bunny friend.
Goodbye, Vanilla!
