James had a birthday!

Charlie and McCabe, finishing up the pinata

Jamesycakes had a birthday at the beginning of this month and we were thrilled to celebrate him! His birthday landed right in the middle of his finals so he had to spend the majority of his day in study mode, but we celebrated as heartily as possible all the same!

When James came home in the afternoon, we headed off to play. Well, we played, while James listened to more recordings of his lectures.

We cut Scout's hair short for the summer and we miss it! Thankfully it is growing back.

McCabe is quite the bike-rider these days! He biked about six miles the other afternoon!

Charlie, in his outfit of choice.

After we had our fill of bike-riding and football, we went on a family hike stroll!

Mason's pride and joy: his watch

Every good romp ends in water. In this case, the boys were trying to catch the slowest moving hug fish we have ever seen!

Even a snake came out to say happy birthday!

Spring is so beautiful here in Kansas!

Once we had our fill of the great outdoors, we headed home for presents!

Coobie wrapped up his very favorite possession, his Big Nosed Dog, and gave it to his Pops. Big tears ran down his face while he did so! Thankfully, when James found his gift of true love, Poppy wisely gave it back to McCabe for safe-keeping.

Recently the boys have been calling James, Candy Hippo, after McCabe called him that in a fit of rage after learning that his Poppy had mistakenly eaten the remainder of Coobie's candy on night. "Ooh! You are a....a....CANDY HIPPO!!!" I suppose he is a bit of a candy hippo, but he is OUR candy hippo and we LOVE him! In honor of our candy hippo, we themed the majority of our gifts accordingly.
These were so tasty!

The boys found all sorts of their treasures and wrapped them up for James

Charlie made this birthday card for James. Isn't that hippo amazing?!

The boys helped me design this shirt for our favorite candy hippo.

After presents, came the hippo pinata!

James decided against strawberry shortcake this year for a highly-rated chocolate cake on allrecipes.com. Boy was it tasty!
We adore our Poppy! ...Even if he is a candy hippo.
