Picture taken of Charlie and me on our way out the door to go on a "Children's Date" in May. Charlie asked me to go on a date with him to get candy and then to the lake to swim. How could I resist? I was completely smitten until I realized that he mostly just wanted the candy. Special time with mommy was just a perk. I know I should have at least tried to crop out the stain on my shirt and Mason's belly, but I think that those elements bring even more depth to this picture.
Charlie is such a hoot these days! He is his same little mercurial self but the older he gets, the more of him we get to know and we just love it! Here are a couple things that he has done or said recently that have kept me smiling.
The other morning Char and I had this interchange:
(On a side-note, it is Fall time and I tend to be a little manic in the Fall with all of the beautiful colors and the crisp exciting feel in the air.)
Me: "I just LOVE life!!!"
Char: (In a flat tone) "Not me. I not love life. I just love Fall-time leaves."
Me: (With a hint of concern) "Well Char, Fall-time leaves are a part of life!"
Char: "Oh.... Well then maybe I do love life."
All the while, Char was having this conversation with me while he was sitting on the toilet.

Recently we were talking over dinner about how James and I got together and I told the boys how James actually didn't really like me at first and dated a different girl instead. I jokingly told them them that they should get him in trouble for treating me so poorly. After just a second of pause, Charlie turned to James and flatly said, "Poppy. Get off yo chair." I always wanted a man to fight for my honor!

This weekend we stopped by our neighbor's house to celebrate her birthday and as I was trying to get the boys out the door, I found Char perched on the counter in the bathroom with his head in the sink. I asked him what in the world he was doing and he said, "I'm just getting my hair fancy." Then, while he combed it into (what he deemed) the perfect coif, he said, "Maybe someone will want to marry me." Char is a little romantic.

As with all families, we Siegs have our own oddball things that we say to each other that don't really make sense to anyone else. One of the things we say is, "I don't know if you know this, but...." and then follow it up with some super obvious statement or a declaration of love. Well, Charlie has taken this up but has put his own spin on it. At least once a day he walks up to me (usually with a flower or leaf) and says,
" I don't know if I know this, but I love you!"
I can't help but laugh a little because I don't know if he always knows it either since he still has the tendency to be a moody little man and generally aims most of his grumps at me.
What our life would be without our little Char I never want to know!

We just had another baby boy last month. I wish my boys lived close to your boys! So much fun.
